He was famous for his depictions of rural Malaysian life, especially scenes of fishermen and villagers. Khalil was among the first Malaysian artists to study abroad, attending Central Saint Martins in London in the 1960s. His work blends traditional Malaysian themes with modern techniques, creating a unique style. Throughout his career, he held many exhibitions locally and internationally, and his art is celebrated for capturing the beauty of Malaysian culture and everyday life.
