Description
Maamor Jantan's Bali offers a captivating glimpse into the island's cultural heritage. Women in traditional garb, their heads crowned with offerings, hint at the island's ancient rituals and ceremonies. This evocative scene creates a lasting impression of Bali's rich cultural tapestry.
Maamor Jantan, nicknamed "Mr. Cakcibor" (The Dragonfly Man) for his signature motif, rose to prominence in Malaysian art circles despite starting his artistic journey later in life. Apprenticed under the renowned Khalil Ibrahim in 1984, Jantan developed a distinct style known for its delicate transparency and range of mauve hues. After years of honing his craft alongside friends and his mentor, Jantan's first solo exhibition, "Figment of Imagination," took place in 2014, showcasing his dedication to capturing scenes of Malay life and landscapes. Beyond visual arts, Jantan is also a musician leading a traditional keroncong orchestra, further demonstrating his deep connection to Malaysian culture.
