Description
The painting celebrates Arles as the hometown of Gypsy Kings, the flamenco ensemble that the artist listened to during his student days. Strumming fingers and guitar outline rendered in an ethereal manner, merely suggestive coalesce with street maps and Rhode's outline forming the artwork.
Zainudin Yahya is a self-taught Malaysian artist whose passion for art began in childhood but was set aside while he pursued a degree in Mathematics and Electronics. His interest was reignited in 2009 during a family project with his children, and a brief stint at the Malaysia Institute of Art helped refine his skills. Working in charcoal, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oil, ZiM explores still life, architecture, abstraction, and surrealism. His works are held in private collections across England, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Abu Dhabi, and the Philippines. He has exhibited widely, including at Black Box Publika (2013), Pavilion KL (2021), World Trade Centre (2022), Sydney (2023), and group shows in 2024 and 2025, such as JoM HanG Art at Campus Gallery, Ampang.
