Art Description
Amanda was first encountered in 2022 in the forests of Bukit Piton, Sabah, with her two young offspring, Puffy and Mon, close by her side high in the canopy. Witnessing an orangutan mother with two young in the same tree is a rare privilege. Over the years, Amanda and her family were encountered repeatedly, revealing a story of growth and change in the wild. By 2026, Puffy had begun his own journey towards independence, while Mon remained by his mother’s side.
This photograph captures more than a mother and her young. It offers a glimpse into the passage of time, the quiet bonds of family, and the remarkable lives of wild orangutans. By acquiring this photograph, you help support the protection of the forests where Amanda and future generations of orangutans can continue to thrive.
