Art Description
At dawn, a rhythmic, high-pitched call echoes through the tropical rainforest. It might easily be mistaken for a bird greeting the morning, but the accelerating whoops and bubbling notes belong to the Northern Grey Gibbon, a species found only on the island of Borneo.
Among the rainforest’s most recognisable sounds, they mark the transition from night to day and return again as sunset approaches.
Gibbons are also masters of the canopy. Often called the acrobats of the rainforest, they move through the treetops with remarkable speed and grace, swinging effortlessly from branch to branch.
In this photograph, the gibbon’s captivating expression invites us to pause and embrace the tranquillity of a tropical forest morning—a reminder to slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate the ancient forests and wild places that continue to sustain life on our planet.
